The Rift Valley Revival

Great things have been happening in the Rift Valley of Tanzania since the fall of 2010.  During Pastor Power's September trip he was introduced to a great Christian man and preacher, Bro. Longon.    He is a Tanzanian native that as has been working in the region for several years and has started a small church there.  He brought Pastor Powers back to the region - which is a 5 hour drive west from our Safe Haven Orphanage.  This is a very primitive and poor area with many people living on the bare ground.   The area he traveled to was west of the Ngorongoro Crater and Olduvai Gorge, which are large tourist destinations of many visitors to Tanzania.

This visit in September lead to scheduling crusades in the Rift Valley during the last week of November.  The work was difficult to get equipment and supplies prepared but many donated money and others worked diligently to finish the preparations in time.   When Pastor Powers returned to begin the crusades it had been decided by the chiefs of that region that they were going to appoint him to be their "spiritual chief" and were going to hold a ceremony at the start of the crusade to make it public and offical.  Approximately 100 chiefs of the Maasai tribes came together and pictures of this event are below.   This was a very historic event.  For hundreds, or even thousands of years their tradition was to travel to a mountain in this region to worship their god.  They said that after all this time they were tired of their people still living in poverty and that their sacrifices had not changed their lives.   Their statement to Pastor Powers was that they wanted him to teach them about the true God and how to know and worship him!  Praise the Lord!

The first day of the crusade was the first time most of these people, including the main chief had ever heard the gospel!

By God's hand we are now in possession of a license to build a radio station in this valley.  While the prospected of people being able to listen to a radio in this remote region seems unlikely, there has been a growing number of A.M. radios in these tribes for the last couple of years.  Now we have the opportunity to build a radio station that can broadcast 24 hours a day to over 1 million people!  The cost of this station is approximatly $25,000 so we are praying for the funds to be able to do this.  The land that was given to us includes a peak where we can place the antenna to reach far up and down this valley!
